Nail and Pedicure Sanitation requirements...
This was going to be removed from the site but we had such a great response about the contents that we are leaving this in place until after the first to the year. If you have any question regarding the information that follows please feel free to give us a call and ask.
So we'd like to share a few hints on what it means for a salon to be 'clean'... We'll start with Nail Services since a lot of media attention has focused lately on what can happen to a client in a sub-standard salon, remember Paula Abdoul's nail infection from her manicure.
NAIL SERVICES...
Pedicure spas - MUST! be sanitized between each and every client with a "High Level EPA Approved Disinfectant" for 10 minutes. Not just a quick wipe down like some shops do either, we must fill it add disinfectant and run the whirlpool for 10 Minutes.
Nail Files & Buffers - We can not reuse nail files and buffers or even store them for you at the shop between visits (We can use sanitizable/reusable ones but few salons do this due to cost), so if you forget them and leave them behind we have to discard them.
Refusal of service - In Oregon we are required to refuse a client for any Nail Service if they appear to have a Fungus present at the time of service. Nail Fungus or what is known as "TINEA", is highly contagious disease/disorder and can be passed from client to client by improper sanitation of tools, implements, or equipment. Signs of Tinea include but are not limited to...
- Separation/lifting of the nail plate from the nail bed.
- Discoloration and thickening of the nail itself
- Underside of nail becomes soft and sticky increasing the amount of debris found there
If any of these signs are present
we are unable to service you until we receive a note from your physician telling us you do not have a fungus present. We do not like to refuse anyone and only do so because we have no choice, your health as well as that of others does matter a great deal to us.
We hope you found the information informative. If you ever have any questions or concern about something you do not understand you should ask your stylist/technition. The good ones will welcome the chance to explain the reasons why and how we do things for you and answer all of your questions. Just remember there are no silly questions only the ones you don't ask!
!!! Be informed & be SAFE !!!
